On 12 March, Chinese Consul General Ma Qiang gave online briefing on the just concluded fourth session of the 13th National People's Congress and the fourth session of the 13th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, a.k.a the “two sessions” to the Cross Party Group (CPG) on China at the Scottish Parliament.
Consul General shared the remarkable achievements made by Chinese people last year, including containing and recovering from Covid-19 as best as possibly can, keeping the fundamentals of the economy stable with GDP for the year growing by 2.3 percent, and attaining a complete victory in the fight against extreme poverty on schedule. He emphasized that China’s next stage of development would bring enormous opportunities to Scotland and further strengthen China-Scotland relations.
Mr. Ma also explained the legitimacy and urgency to improve the electoral system in Hong Kong SAR, which was high on two sessions’ agenda this year.
Dean Lockhart MSP, the Convener of CPG China, expressed that the group would continue to play an active and constructive role in promoting China-Scotland relations in the next Parliament. Attendees then exchanged development on Sino-Scottish cooperation in regional exchanges, e-commerce and Mandarin education.
